About Us

Oak Ridge National Laboratory's Optical Metamaterials Program leverages the unique resources of the Department of Energy's largest scientific laboratory, along with strong collaboration with industry and academia, to advance the application of metamaterials to the Nation's energy-related challenges.  Metamaterial research has traditionally been the focus of defense agencies with exclusively defense-related applications (i.e. cloaking/stealth technology).  The ORNL Optical Metamaterials Program is significant in that it represents the first and only effort to target metamaterial R&D at energy-related problems.  By seeking to include industry at an early stage, the program focuses on near-term applications of this exciting new technology.

If you are interested in collaborating with our researchers or joining our consortium, please contact Dr. Duncan Earl (earldd@ornl.gov) for more information.
