Welcome
The Power and Energy Systems Group (PES) is a research group in the Energy and Transportation Science Division (ETSD) of the Energy and Engineering Science Directorate (EESD) at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). PES does extensive research using resources at the Power Electronics and Electrical Power Systems Research Center (PEEPSRC).
Areas of Expertise:
- Power systems
- Distributed energy resources, such as wind, photovoltatics
- Power electronics applications in power systems
- Smart grid
- Power system economics and efficiency
Collaborative efforts are encouraged between the PES, industry, and academia. The most advanced analysis, simulation, and design software is available to the PES staff to implement state-of-the art circuit and motor designs.
The Distributed Energy Communications and Controls Facility (DECC) Laboratory has been established for power electronic-based distributed energy resources. The laboratory equipment interfaces to the ORNL distribution system.
Please contact us for more information on how you can work with PES.
