Dawn joined the Laboratory in 2001 as a Post Masters Research Assistant she became part of the Microbial Ecology and Physiology Group in 2004. She has acquired extensive knowledge and a successful research background in many areas such as:
- Illumina based sequencing (HiSeq2000 & GAIIx)
- Roche 454 sequencing;
- microarray fabrication and analysis;
- DNA and RNA isolation and analysis;
- real time PCR;
- polymerase chain reaction (PCR)
- southern, northern and western blotting;
- genomic and cDNA library screening and production;
- deletion mutagenesis;
- vector development;
- taq polymerase purification;
- gene cloning;
- robotic technology;
- immunohistochemistry;
- in situ hybridization;
- short-term tissue culturing;
- anaerobic culturing;
- radioactive and hazardous materials management;
- animal and insect colony maintenance;
- Technological skills in computing, i.e., MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Imagene, JMP Genomics, ArrayStat, Vecotro NTI, Artemis, GCG (Wisconsin Sequence Analysis Package), Sequencher analysis software and Primer 3, etc.
