Bob Standaert is a Staff Scientist in the Life Sciences Division at the Oak Ridge National Laboratory. He received his A.B. in chemistry in 1985 from Cornell University, his S.M. in chemistry from Yale University in 1988, and his Ph.D. in Chemistry from Harvard University in 1992. From 1992–1995, he was a Merck post-doctoral fellow at Harvard in the laboratory of Prof. Stuart L. Schreiber, and prior to joining the staff at ORNL, he was an assistant professor of chemistry at Texas A&M (1995–2001) and an associate professor of chemistry at the University of Illinois at Chicago (2001–2005). His research interests, broadly described, involve applications of organic chemistry to biological problems. Current projects involve primarily the development of light-responsive molecules to mediate biological responses and materials recognition.
