21st Century Truck Partnership
The 21st Century Truck program supports the development and implementation of commercially viable technologies that will help reduce the nation's dependence on imported oil and improve air quality. The partnership combines the resources and capabilities of the Departments of Energy, Transportation, and Defense; the Environmental Protection Agency; and 15 industrial partners. Through this innovative program, the federal government and the trucking industry are working together to develop prototype production heavy-duty trucks and buses with improved fuel efficiency, reduced emissions, enhanced safety and performance, and lower operating costs.
ORNL performs research and development and supports several of the partnership's multidisciplinary technical teams by providing engineering and research expertise in hybrid vehicle technologies, heavy vehicle safety, engine operating regimes, advanced materials for propulsion systems and structural components, and systems integration.
