Driving from McGhee Tyson (Knoxville) Airport to Oak Ridge
To the hotels: Leave the airport heading on the Alcoa Highway toward Knoxville (this is left with the terminal at your back).
Pass lots of car dealerships (the Airport Motor Mile). Just after them is the intersection with I-140. Take the second entrance towards Oak Ridge (Left).
I-140 eventually reaches West Knoxville. You will pass the Kingston Pike exit and then cross over I-40. Stay in the left lane, but turn right when the road ends. The next light is the intersection with the Pellissippi Parkway (State Route 162). Go left towards Oak Ridge.
The Pellissippi Parkway ends in a fork. Bear left on Route 62 to Oak Ridge. Go through a small shopping area and over the Clinch River. The road bears left on the other side of the river. Stay on Rt. 62. Bear right just before the light to Oak Ridge. (Straight ahead would take you to Oak Ridge National Lab.)
You will pass the the entrance to Commerce Park (left) and the University Of Tennessee Arboretum (right). Continue on Rt. 62 to Oak Ridge where it becomes Illinois Avenue. Just after you cross the railroad track is a large intersection. If you make a left here, it would take you to the meeting site. However, proceed straight on Illinois Avenue.
The Comfort Inn and Garden Plaza will be on your right, and the Ramada Inn and Hampton Inn will be on your left.
To 1099 Commerce Park: To reach the meeting site from your hotel, go back on Illinois Avenue the way you entered town. Pass the Dean Stallings Ford Dealership on your right and then a mini-storage warehouse. Pass a dead end road that leads to a Mercury dealership. Bear right at the next big intersection which is lafayette Avenue (left) and Scarborough Road (right). There are signs pointing to Y-12 and ORNL.
Stay in the left lane. At the light, cross over a railroad track and go straight. The Y-12 plant will be on your right. Go up a hill, passing a red brick building on your left. At the top of the hill is an entrance to Commerce Park (not the one you passed on the way from the airport). Turn left into Commerce Park. At the stop sign, you will see a building across the road and slightly to your left. This is 1099 Commerce Park, the site of the meeting. Go into the building entrance and park. You will have to enter the building at the main entrance, in the center of the left side. If you do not have a DOE badge, sign in with the receptionist and get a building badge. To reach the auditorium, go straight ahead to the atrium in the center of the building and turn right. The auditorium is on your left. |
