Chemical Sciences
Division |
Currently
evaluating and performing chemical separation techniques for
the detection of SNM at ultra trace levels (ppt) in environmental,
surveillance, and bioassay samples. Characterized behavior of
crown ether extractants for the removal of fission products
and TRUs from DOE alkaline wastes. Data were derived from the
measurement of gross alpha/beta activity, liquid scintillation
counting, gamma spectrometry and ICP/MS analysis. |
| 1992-2002
|
Chemical
Technology Division |
Responsible
for bench-scale studies to support capability upgrades for the
liquid low-level and hazardous waste treatment facilities at
ORNL; testing of new waste treatment technologies for removal
radioactive components contained in DOE underground waste storage
tanks. Analyzed organic constituents of produced water derived
from oil drilling operations so that a thermodynamic model could
be developed to predict contaminant levels under various drilling
conditions. |
| 1974-1992 |
Analytical Chemistry
Division |
Pursued
diverse research and development projects under federal contract
grant funding (DOE, EPA, EPRI). Many projects involved interdisciplinary
collaboration with personnel from other ORNL divisions. Developed
analytical procedures for the measurement of trace metals using
gas chromatography with microwave plasma emission detection.
Developed in-line monitors for heavy metal analysis in nuclear
fuel reprocessing streams. Developed a fiber optic refrigeration
cycle monitor for heat absorption machines. |
| 1972-1974 |
University
of Georgia |
Coupled
high-sensitivity chemiluminescent detection with immobilized
enzyme reactor for the analysis of glucose in body fluids. Taught
Qualitative Chemical Analysis laboratories. Course minor taken
through the Department of Biochemistry and the School of Pharmacy. |
