Rob R. Smith

Rob R. Smith graduated with a B.S. in chemistry from the University of Texas at the Permian Basin in 1981. He worked two years as plant chemist at a wastewater plant followed by nine years as a refinery chemist at a Texas refinery.

He then obtained his current position of Research Associate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) - Chemical Sciences Division.

He has spent the last twelve years involved in various efforts focused on environmental sampling and analysis for VOC's. These efforts have utilized an ORNL developed technology, the direct sampling ion trap mass spectrometer (DSITMS), in a multiplicity of situations (air, water, and soil analyses) at numerous DOE, DoD, and private sector sites across the country. He is well versed in VOC analyses including hydrosparge, sorbent trap sampling, and direct soil/water purge techniques.
