April 2001 - Search for Technologies for Field-Protable Measurements of Lead in Dust

The Site Characterization and Monitoring Technologies (SCMT) Center, which is part of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) program ( www.epa.gov), conducts performance verification tests of technologies used for the characterization and monitoring of contaminated media. The program exists to provide high-quality and credible performance data through third-party testing organizations, to those involved in the approval, selection, purchase, and use of environmental technologies.

The SCMT Center has an interest in testing field-portable technologies for the measurement of lead in dust. A strong technical panel of the nation's experts in this area has been assembled to assist with the design of the verification test and the reporting of results. The panel includes representation from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, the National Institute of Standards and Technology, Research Triangle Institute, the American Industrial Hygiene Association, the Massachusetts Childhood Lead Poisoning and Prevention Program, and several EPA offices.

Criteria for participation in the program include a commercially available technology, willingness to cost share a portion of the testing costs, willingness to participate in the study design process, and a commitment to deploy and operate the technology at one or more contaminated sites during the verification testing process. If you have a technology that meets these criteria or would like to refer a technology for verification testing, please contact either Amy Dindal, ETV Project Lead at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (678-344-5569, dindalab@ornl.gov), or Eric Koglin, ETV SCMT Program Manager (702-798-2432, koglin.eric@epa.gov).
