The Chemical Separations Group conducts basic and applied research in chemical recognition and separation phenomena. We have extensive experience in the design of novel molecules, materials, and processes for nuclear separations, waste remediation, environmental restoration, and decontamination. Due to the multidisciplinary nature of this research, the group maintains expertise in a number of areas:

Solvent extraction and ion exchange

Fission product and actinide separations

Supramolecular chemistry including host-guest chemistry,
metal ion coordination chemistry, anion receptors, and
    molecular-scale self-assembly

Computer-aided molecular design

Organic, inorganic, and materials synthesis

Crystallography and structural chemistry

Molecular-scale to plant-scale process development
