Dr. Moyer¹s background entails 27 years of experience in fundamental and applied chemistry of recognition and transport of cations and anions, particularly involving solvent extraction and ion exchange (SX&IX). His efforts have focused on radionuclide separation for environmental and waste cleanup in the USDOE complex, and his accomplishments in fundamental research on SX&IX are internationally recognized. Dr. Moyer leads the Chemical Separations Group of ORNL's Chemical Sciences Division and is Co-editor-in-Chief of the journal Solvent Extraction and Ion Exchange. He has 8 patents and approximately 150 career publications. He is a co-inventor of the Caustic-Side Solvent Extraction (CSSX) process scheduled for deployment in the $1B Salt Waste Processing Facility at the Savannah River Site for cesium removal from alkaline high-level waste and held leadership roles in the development and demonstration of this technology. In the area of ion-exchange, Dr. Moyer was also a co-inventor and contributor to the successful development of BiQuat anion-exchange resin, now commercialized for pertechnetate and perchlorate removal from groundwater. He is also an inventor of the SRTALK process for removal of technetium from alkaline tank waste by solvent extraction using a crown ether.
