SUNY-ESF and AgriGenesis have formed a partnership to develop a dedicated lignocellulosic biomass crop for the biomass-to-ethanol industry. AgriGenesis is a New Zealand based plant biotech company that has developed advanced, gene-based technologies for plant fibre engineering. SUNY-ESF has 18 years experience in the breeding, crop management and harvesting of short rotation Salix species. The partnership has been formed to optimize biomass production and chemical composition for maximum profitability in the biomass to ethanol industry. Our rationale, and progress made will be discussed.
