The effects of pressure pulsation (PP) on oxygen transfer rate (OTR) measured by sulfite oxidation were investigated.  Manipulating the aeration rate and period of an on-off control valve in a 4-L working volume fermenter resulted in different gas pressures and cycles of PP, respectively.  A dynamic model of OTR was built and compared to experimental data.  Keeping gas at different constant pressures was also examined.  The findings of this study indicated that good agreement of measurement and theoretical model was achieved, and the OTR above 9 psig PP showed significant enhancement compared to corresponding fixed time-integrated average pressure at 25˚C.
