Bioenergy from Biomass Gasification:  An Overview

Among all the renewable energy sources, biomass represents the highest potential and plays a major role in the energy future of the world.  Also, biomass is considered a clean energy source as it does not increase CO2 in the atmosphere and has low sulphur and ash content.  However, with the exception of wood, most biomass forms are not converted easily for energy, so few methods are available to convert biomass to fuel gases and transport fuel and chemicals.  Over the past two decades a great deal of experimental work has been carried out on the development of thermal processes of converting biomass into energy, particularly for biomass lignocellulosic waste materials. This study reviews biomass as a renewable source of energy to meet, at least partially, the world energy demand with the latest technologies and gasification processes.
