David Allison is a Research Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology, at The University of Tennessee. He also serves as the Biological Applications consultant for Molecular Imaging Inc., a company that markets Scanning Probe Microscopes. He retired from Oak Ridge National Laboratory in 1999 as a senior research scientist from Life Sciences Division after a 33 year career. Since 1987 his research interest have been directed toward the development and application of probe microscopy for solving biological problems. He has pioneered sample preparation techniques for imaging biomolecules with probe microscopes including DNA mapping by AFM. His current research interests include developing various applications of AFM for research at the nanoscale and using the sensitivity of the atomic force microscope cantilever to identify and measure interactions between biomolecules. Away from the laboratory one of his many hobbies would include preparation of the regional cuisine of the Southern Appalachian Mountains.
