Diabetes afflicts 16 million Americans and is the leading cause of blindness, amputations, and death. The support given riders in the Tour de Cure raises money to help those with diabetes and to fund research for a cure.
Tour de Cure teams generally ride 150 miles as part of the event, over a 2 day period. This is a ride, not a race, and cyclists of all abilities join the tour to ride for fun. Participants are not required to cycle the entire distance. Support and gear vehicles pick up riders when they are done and take them to the finish line. Meals, rest stops every 8 to 10 miles, and overnight accommodations are provided to the cyclists.
