Understanding biological membranes—their structure, dynamic behavior and function—is a grand challenge in biology. A broad range of interdisciplinary scientific expertise is required in order to solve the elusive structure/function relationship in the different biological systems. Addressing this grand challenge requires the application of multiple techniques, including the combination of neutron-based biological science enabled by chemical synthesis and computer simulation. The workshop will assemble experts from the USA and abroad to discuss recent biomembranes research and how to make judicious use of ORNL’s flagship neutron and computational facilities. In addition, the participants will identify scientific drivers, and expertise and experimental capabilities that will deliver a cutting-edge program of biomembranes research.
Registration deadline: June 20. The workshop continues through July 9.
