Successful careers begin with talents of the individual, but there are many intangibles that go into the making of a successful career – some of which we can control and some we cannot. The speaker will briefly review his 36-year career at ORNL in the area of nuclear technology R&D and describe his current responsibilities and outlook for the future.  Within this context, the speaker will provide his opinions on what he has learned relative to the make-up of a successful career and how we should manage and respond to the many intangibles that can impact our career. Some specific advice on personal attitude, responding to opportunities, and persistence will be provided.
