The focus of this talk is to elucidate periodic trends across the actinide series, and to explain how these studies led to the development of a new theory that can be used to predict the formation of covalent bonds with actinides. The talk will focus primarily on the comparative chemistry of transuranium elements and will highlight very recent discoveries with californium. Actinide chemists and non-initiates alike will gain a fundamental understanding of the chemistry of f elements from this talk.
