Dynamic wireless power transfer (DWPT) technology developed by ORNL offers an opportunity for safe, convenient, efficient charging of electric vehicles (EVs) in motion. Highways equipped with embedded DWPT coils would enable EV owners to charge their vehicles during daily commutes. In this presentation, Dr. Omer Onar will detail ORNL’s DWPT technology, and Dr. Zhenhong Lin will discuss quantitative analysis of DWPT’s potential effect on market adoption of EVs.

About the Speakers

Omer C. Onar is an R&D staff member in the ORNL Power Electronics and Electric Machinery group. He received his PhD in electrical engineering from Illinois Institute of Technology. Onar was awarded the Alvin M. Weinberg Fellowship in 2010.

Zhenhong Lin is a senior R&D staff member in the ORNL Transportation Planning and Decision Science group. He received his BE/MS in automotive engineering from Beijing’s Tsinghua University and his MS in transportation technology & policy and PhD in transportation engineering from the University of California, Davis.
