The world of personal transportation is ever increasing in complexity. Tighter emission standards, higher fuel economy requirements, and growing infotainment demands have long taxed the communications networks within modern vehicles. Vehicles now have upwards of greater than one hundred on-board microprocessors, with many of them needing to communicate with each other. Add to that the need to retrieve infotainment data from external sources, as well as the up and coming prospects of vehicle-to-vehicle communication, vehicle-to-infrastructure communication, and autonomous vehicles. ORNL will be hosting a seminar series and training course presented by Intrepid Control Systems, a vehicle network tools supplier. A morning seminar (9:00-10:00am) will target individuals that are novices to the field of automotive networks, and will include a basic introduction to in-vehicle communication protocols and their evolutionary history. An afternoon seminar (4:00-5:00pm) will target individuals that have good proficiency and have a need to know about the available tools for working with automotive networks. Finally, there will be an all-day training course (10:00am-4:00pm) that will be a deep dive into the various communication protocols, such as CAN, CAN FD, LIN, FlexRay, and Automotive Ethernet.
