summary:adapter tests .

Dear Managers ,

Well here's what i was able to get , thanks to
 Dominic Fernandez and Stan Horwitz.

 regards

 Peter .

Following are the tests ,and points you need to
consider while troubleshooting your GB adapter.

Use the netstat command to monitor the traffic
across the LAN
interconnect. For example:
# netstat -acdnots -I nr0
nr0 Ethernet counters at Mon Apr 30 14:15:15 2001
65535 seconds since last zeroed
3408205675 bytes received
4050893586 bytes sent
7013551 data blocks received
6926304 data blocks sent
7578066 multicast bytes received
115546 multicast blocks received
3182180 multicast bytes sent
51014 multicast blocks sent
0 blocks sent, initially deferred
0 blocks sent, single collision
0 blocks sent, multiple collisions
0 send failures
0 collision detect check failure
0 receive failures
0 unrecognized frame destination
0 data overruns
0 system buffer unavailable
0 user buffer unavailable

Use the ifconfig -a and niffconfig -v commands to
monitor the
status of the active and inactive adapters

Other Important factors to consider:

The Type of Network adapters used by you :

 New Cards (January, 2003):
PCI-X/PCI to Single-port 1000BASE-SX (MMF with duplex
SC) Gbit EthernetNIC 3X-DEGXA-SA

PCI-X/PCI to Single-port 10/100/1000BASE-T (Twisted
Copper with RJ45)Ethernet NIC 3X-DEGXA-TA

   OR

Current Models (scheduledto retire by the end
ofCY2003):

PCI to Single-port 1000BASE-SX (MMF with duplex SC)
Gigabit Ethernet NIC DEGPA-SA

PCI to Single-port 1000BASE-T (Twisted-Pair Copper
with RJ45) Gigabit Ethernet NIC DEGPA-TA

Check out the "distance supported " for each type of
adapter , if you are exceeding the
distances between cluster Nodes using these adapters ,
be prepared for intermittent losses
of heartbeat between members .

For Example :

 1000BASE-SX Shortwave (850 nm) Laser
   Fiber Bandwidth
       Maximum Length
 62.5/125 160 MHz
      721.78 ft/220 m
                                    200 MHz
      902.23 ft/275 m
  50/125 400 MHz
     1640.42 ft/500 m
                                    500 MHz
       1804.46 ft/550 m
1000BASE-T UTP Copper

 Cable - 4 Pair
 CAT 5 or better
      328.08 ft/100 m

  Thanks

   Dominic
