defragment blues

Help! We just discovered that, every Monday afternoon our Tru64 Unix 5.1
system wants to defragment all the disks, bringing performance to
near-zero. I"ve got a zillion processes called /usr/sbin/defragment
running. Does anyone know if it's okay to kill -9 these? Is there anyway to
terminate their services safely, or should I let them run their course?

thanks,

Chris
