HSZ80 replaced by HSG80: data on disks still usable ?

We're going to replace our HSZ80 controller with an HSG80 controller
(fibrechannel with switch). My question is: can the data on disks somehow be
used after replacing the controller or do I have to go for a backup/restore
action ?
