LDAP module for system authentication, anyone using it ?

Hi,

Is it possible to use the "LDAP module for system authentication" that comes
with
Digital Internet Alphaserver Software v5.0 seperately from the the rest of
the
software kit ? (can i install this subset on any other system ?) 
Is anyone using this and what are your experiences ? Can it be used
with any LDAP server (not just Netscape Directory Server) ? 
Thanks for any tips/hints ?
