SUMMARY: Control characters in mail files

Thanks to:
Orson Voerckel
Bob Vickers

They both said that this happens when then the root file system fills up,
/tmp in particluar. Although the root file system isn't full currently the
console had error messages on it indicating it had been. Thanks for the info.

Original question:
>This is not a major problem but more of an annoyance which we would like
to get >rid of if possible. Once in a while we have user e-mail files in
the >/var/spool/mail directory which gets control characters as the first
two control >characters in the file. They are usually a 0? in a black box.
When these >appear our mail programs can't read the files and say they are
corrupt. If we >go in and delete those characters then the mail programs
read the file just >fine. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason
for this. Any ideas?
