We're trying to connect up a couple of HP IV SiMX printers to our network
and allow printing via Pathworks V5.0 running on OSF/1 V2.0. Actually
we'd like Apple Ethertalk clients, PC Pathworks/DECnet clients and perhaps
generic TCP/IP clients to be able to print to these beasts via a queue or
two on the OSF/1 V2.0 server (they want to charge for printouts).

I became sick and tired of messing around with the HP printers and
decided to back off and try something that should be "simpler". I
figured that I could creare a printer queue on one of my OSF systems that
would direct jobs it receives to a remote system for processing would be
easier and would give me some clues to use in solving my HP problems. I
have been able to create the queues, but the "local" queue keeps waiting for
the "remote" queue to be enabled in order to process the jobs that are
piling up for it locally. One the "remote" system everything seems to
work fine - ie I can happily send a print job to the queue where the
printer is actually serviced and everything prints out just fine.

Sorry to be so confusing, but I'm confused. Unfortunately I'm quite new to
UN*X and am fighting what feels like a loosing battle. If anyone can
point me in the right direction (or perhaps even tell me how YOU did it)
I would appreciate the help.
