Help: Alpha rebooted but not recognising disk

Hi there.

I'n in one hell of a fix at the moment:
I've put a Seagate ST12400N onto a 3400 running 1.2, and on reboot it comes
back with messages saying that it does not have the devices
/dev/rrz11?. At this point it says perform manual fsck's on the lot and
goes to single user mode. At this stage I cannot edit fstab because the
root partition is mounted `ro'. 
And I cnnot do much else because it will not reboot.

What can I do. This is REAL URGENT!!!

Any help would be appreciated immensely!
