Forgive me if this is really obvious, or belongs elsewhere, but I'm hoping
some of you are ex-VMS folks and can point me in the right direction.
Since moving from VMS -> Ultrix -> OSF/1, and learning emacs on Ultrix,
the functionality (or lack of) keeps changing. Right now, I'm working
with a bare-bones .emacs:
(load "vt200")
(load "keypad")
(load "edt")
which gives me *some* semblence of VMS EDT when I do:
emacs -nw myfile
but if I just startup emacs under Motif with "emacs myfile" and it comes up
in its own window, I get numeric keypad and no EDT emulation.
Could some kind soul please tell me:
* how to get emacs to come up in its own window with an application
keypad?
* what a reasonable .emacs file that would give me EDT/TPU emulation
would look like?
* how to use the "lispdir.el" file and "LCD-datafile" files mentioned
in the emacs FAQ to find initialization files for emacs?
* how to make initialization files mentioned in ".emacs" work?
I have a GNU emacs manual, but it doesn't seem to be helping me much -
can anyone suggest something along the lines of "Emacs under X for complete
dummies who haven't a clue"????? %:^P
Thanks in advance for any help you can send!!!
