Some questions about upgrading from v1.3a to 2.0
Greetings: I am about to upgrade our DEC Alpha 3000/300L from v1.3a to
v2.0. I wanted to ask those with experience and knowledge a few brief
questions, to make the process as simple and painfree as possible.
1. the command uerf -R reveals I have firmware v2.7. Do I need to upgrade
to v2.7, as supplied on the disk? If so, do I need to adjust anything
physically inside the DEC computer, or should I just boot off of the
firmware CD ROM. Of course, if this is wrong, can anyone point me in the
right direction?
2. I plan on upgrading from v1.3a to v2.0. I figure if the upgrade works,
then I am ahead of the game, but if it fails, I can do a fresh install from
scratch. Are there any opinions on this? I would really like to know if an
upgrade from v1.3a is impossible or if it is unwise. I have a full set of
backups, but any opportunity to make the process faster is good, if it does
not cause any problems. What files will I lose with the backup? I am
interested in things like the init.d directories, for example.
3. Are there any sage words of wisdom or advice that might help me in the
process?
Thanks in advance for any information. I appreciate the help that this
group provides its members. Thanks again.
