/var/qmail/alias to vpopmail acct question

I have qmail setup with vpopmail and all my accounts are virtual 
accounts. I created some aliases in /var/qmail/alias for root, 
mailer-daemon, etc. but am not seeing them appear in my vpopmail 
account. Instead they are being processed by the vpopmail catchall 
account. Below is the content of my .qmail-root file in alias and the 
results of qmail-showctl. I'm also noticing the same thing for 
doublebounces. I created a vpopmail account to catch the double bounces, 
but they are also being dumped into catchall.

What am I missing?
