dot-qmail files not forwarding mail

Hello
   I have installed Qmail (from Life with Qmail instructions) with 
vmailmgr on Mandrake 10.1.  I am looking to use the dot-qmail files to 
allow users to forward thier emails to another email account.  I have 
tested the actual qmail installation by sending emails to my account 
(from an outside account), and I receive them.  I even set up a second 
domain on the server and created myself an actual email address on that 
domain.  However, when I create a dot-qmail file with a forward statment 
(the dot-qmail file is named the same as a virtual email address - no 
actual mail box on this server, all email is to be re-directed to 
another email server), I get a bounce back stating ' Sorry, no mailbox 
here by that name. (#5.1.1)'  I have used this feature previously on 
another email server that I had a 'virtual' email account on, and I was 
able to forward all emails without having to be a user on that server.

   I have made sure that the dot-qmail file is uid and gid the name of 
the domain users, and permisions are 600 (even tried 640, still no 
difference)

I have even attempted to get the mail written to the Maildir of the 
domain user, but with no success.
