pine and qmail

I have searched for an answer on google, but the result didn't quite help. 
To make it very simple, I would like to use pine 4.4 (the newest version) 
with qmail. The qmail install is new. The server was just built about a 
month ago, so all of qmail is the latest.

I only found one person who claimed to have done it and mentioned that pine 
had been patched, no further word on it.

As for the mailing list archive, the search engine is broken so that didn't 
help.

Does anybody know if pine will work with qmail? Is anything else required? 
If pine does not work, are there any other suggestions? I need a telnet 
usable reader, not web, nothing else, just telnet.
