ORNL, Energy Systems top United Way goal

Thanks to the generosity of thousands of employees and retirees, the 1998 Lockheed Martin Oak Ridge United Way campaign exceeded its goal with contributions totaling some $1,287,071 to agencies in the East Tennessee area.

"The Energy Systems/ORNL combined United Way Campaign was a tremendous success,” said Butch Clements, campaign chairman. “Thanks to the generosity of our employees and retirees and the dedicated hard work of our solicitors and the campaign cabinets, we exceeded our goals and collected more than $1.2 million. These contributions will help the United Way Agencies provide critical services in the communities where we live. Once again, we have proven we are good neighbors.”

The 1998 campaign topped its goal of $1.1 million by more than nine percent. The total includes a corporate contribution of $70,000.

Contribution totals for employees at the Oak Ridge sites were as follows: ORNL, $567,013; and Y-12, $619,560. Retirees contributed $30,459. Leadership giving increased again from 325 leadership givers last year to 347 this year.

Here is the funding breakdown for United Way agencies in East Tennessee counties in which most Lockheed Martin employees reside: Anderson, $489,722; Blount, $24,713; Campbell, $18,137; Claiborne, $25; Cumberland, $5,938; Hamblen, $1,331; Hamilton, $2,408; Jefferson, $1,439; Knox, $512,662; Loudon, $66,172; McMinn, $4,735; Monroe, $6,345; Morgan, $43,754; Rhea, $2,542; Roane, $198,204; Scott, $10; Sevier, $3,810; Union, $7,249. Employees contributed $6,525 to agencies in Mesa County, Colo., and $51 to agencies in Washington, D.C.
