Trash Bash cleans up roadside near ORNL

OAK RIDGE, Tenn., March 28, 2008 — A group of Oak Ridge National Laboratory employees working through the volunteer service organization Team UT-Battelle recently spent two hours cleaning up along a roadway near the laboratory during the semiannual Trash Bash event.

Coordinator Jeff Sickau said the crew found all kinds of litter.

"Our intention was to clean up a section of Highway 95 just north of Bethel Valley Road," Sickau said. "We had 11 participants from UT-Battelle pick up about 23 bags of trash, about five bulk items that were too large such as tires, truck tarps and a large drill bit from a drill rig."

Another Trash Bash will be held in the fall.

ORNL is managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy.
