Audio Spot: First Oak Ridge deer hunt of '06 occurs this weekend
Oak Ridge Wildlife Management Coordinator Neil Giffen says there are some slight changes to this year's hunts.
"This year we've added some acreage," Giffen says. "We've transferred some of the hunting areas from archery to gun hunting, which is a more efficient way to hunt. We've also taken some areas that were non-hunting originally and added those this year."
Participants in the Oak Ridge deer hunts are selected through a drawing conducted by the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency.
"We generally get about a thousand hunters per weekend," Giffen says. "We are typically getting approximately 350 deer harvested each year."
Other hunts are scheduled during the weekends of Dec. 2-3 and Dec. 16-17.
ORNL is managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy.
