OAK RIDGE, Tenn., July 27, 2006 — University of Tennessee football coach Phillip Fulmer Wednesday helped launch Oak Ridge National Laboratory's annual United Way campaign, praising efforts by the lab and the agency for their many efforts, including aid to victims of Hurricane Katrina.

"United Way was one of the first organizations in there helping," Fulmer said. "We had a number of players' families that were directly affected by the help the United Way was able to give them. In the time of need, in the time of crisis, the United Way has always been there."

Long active in Girls and Boys Club activities, Fulmer said United Way helps provide positive programs for youth.

"Whether it be social issues, health issues, mental health issues, crisis issues, all of those issues have been directly supported by the United Way," Fulmer said.

Oak Ridge National Laboratory is the largest contributor to the United Way campaign in the Knoxville area.

ORNL is managed by UT-Battelle for the Department of Energy.
