Garrett elected to district council of engineering group

OAK RIDGE, Tenn., March 20, 2001 — Donald Garrett, senior engineering and project manager in the Engineering Division of the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) has been elected chairman of the American Society for Civil Engineers (ASCE) District 9 Council.

The district council covers Tennessee, Kentucky, Arkansas and Indiana and represents about 5,000 members.

An ORNL staff member since 1989, Garrett has been a project engineer and manager for environmental restoration and currently works on scientific upgrades of the High Flux Isotope Reactor. Garrett previously worked in structural engineering design and project engineering at TVA. He is a long-time member of ASCE.

Garrett earned a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Purdue University and did graduate study in engineering administration at the University of Tennessee. He and his sons, Todd and Ryan, live in Knoxville.

ORNL is a DOE multiprogram facility operated by UT-Battelle.
