Bayne named American Statistical Association fellow

OAK RIDGE, Tenn., Oct. 3, 2000 — Charles Kenneth Bayne, senior research staff member in the Computer Science and Mathematics Division of the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), has been named a fellow of the American Statistical Association.

Bayne has performed research in the field of statistical experimental design. His current research relates to the field of chemometrics, which is the application of statistics to chemistry problems. Bayne co-authored a book about chemometrics which won the 1987 Technical Communications Award of Excellence in books.

He earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics and chemistry from Blackburn (Ill.) College, a master's in applied mathematics from Washington University and a doctorate in statistics from North Carolina State University.

Bayne and his wife, Pauline, are residents of the West Hills section of West Knoxville.
