Sheffield reappointed to advisory panel

OAK RIDGE, Tenn., Sep. 9, 1998 — Dr. John Sheffield, director of Energy Technology Programs at the Department of Energy's (DOE) Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), has been reappointed chair of DOE's Fusion Energy Sciences Advisory Committee.

The panel provides advice and recommendations on technical issues and other matters relating to the U.S. Fusion Energy Sciences Program.

Sheffield is also director of the Joint Institute for Energy and Environment at the University of Tennessee, a fellow of the American Physical Society and fellow of the American Nuclear Society.

He earned his bachelor's and master's degrees and doctorate in physics from London University.

ORNL, one of DOE's multiprogram national research and development facilities, is managed by Lockheed Martin Energy Research Corporation.
