Vortex Waltz at PPPL

Vortex Waltz at PPPL

Four pieces produced by researchers, staff, and graduate students at the U.S. Department of Energy's Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory are among 48 selected for the 2009 Art of Science gallery at Princeton University. The juried show features works chosen from more than 200 submissions to the University's Art of Science competition. The theme of this year's competition was "found art... scientific images created during the course of an actual research project, rather than art inspired by science." The four works from PPPL in the exhibit include Meter-long Plasma Source by Erik Gilson; Heaters Glowing in Argon Discharge by Robert Kaita, John Timberlake, and the LTX Group; Starburst Left on Surface by High Voltage Breakdown by grad student Daniel Lundberg; and Vortex Waltz by grad student Luc Peterson and Greg Hammett. PPPL's Head of Science Education Andrew Zwicker co-organized the competition. The online gallery and prize winners are at: www.princeton.edu/artofscience/2009/.
