Community Justice "Walk as One"
In 2003, Team UT-Battelle participated for the first time in this walk-athon fund raiser, held by the National Conference for Community and Justice to "make a difference in the fight against bias, bigotry, and racism." This philosophy directly supports the ORNL policy of attracting and sustaining a diverse, world-class work force. The event was held on Sunday, June 4, at Volunteer Landing in Knoxville, and raised funds and awareness for diversity leadership education programs. An enthusiastic group of participants, including three dogs, thoroughly enjoyed the outing after conducting a successful fund raising. Team UT-Battelle had 42 participants on their team and raised over $3400. Success was celebrated a few weeks later at a pizza luncheon. In 2004, 67 walkers raised approximately $4000. Associated events included a luncheon kickoff meeting; an egg roll, sponsored by the Asian-Pacific Heritage Festival, and the walk itself, held on Sunday, June 6. In addition to the individuals who participated representing Team UT-Battelle, UT-Battelle was a corporate sponsor of the event | ||
