Oak Ridge Fall Velo Classic

The Oak Ridge Velo Classic is a premier multi-day cycling race to be held in Oak Ridge on August 4th and 5th, 2012. This event provides a unique opportunity to promote the Oak Ridge community, as well as the companies and organizations that call it home. As a prelude to the U.S. National Professional Cycling Championship to be held in Chattanooga, TN next year, the Oak Ridge Velo Classic has been awarded the distinction of hosting the Tennessee State Championship Road Race for 2012.

Racers of all ages and from all parts of Tennessee will be competing to win the honor of being a Tennessee State Champion. In addition to the road race, the Oak Ridge Velo Classic includes a time trial that measures individual cyclists' abilities as they race against the clock. The third event is a high-speed, technical race called a criterium, in which racers dart at high speeds through a short but highly technical course for fixed period of times. The criteriums are the most fan-friendly and accessible of all of the races.

The races consist of men's and women's events for competitors from beginners to professionals, as well as races designed specifically for juniors ages 10 to 14 and ages 15 to 18. While these are competitive events, they also serve to encourage and promote healthy lifestyles and the benefits of physical activity. It is anticipated that over 200 cyclists and their families from Tennessee and the Southeast will come to Oak Ridge in August to compete in this event.
