Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) Walk for DiabetesThis popular team activity has been very successful over the past few years in raising funding from ORNL employees and friends for finding a cure for juvenile diabetes, as well as research and education. The goal is to give children with diabetes a chance at life without insulin injections, blood tests, restricted diets, and shortened life expectancy.
The 2003 walk was held on Saturday, May 17, at Knoxville's Volunteer Landing. One of the fund raising events for the past 3 years has been a popular softball game between ORNL management and co-ed staff. Total contributions in 2003 from UT-Battelle were over $6000.
On May 8, 2004, Team UT-Battelle participated in the Walk at the World's Fair Park on a beautiful day, along with 2000 other walkers, which made this event the largest in a 7-year history. Team UT-Battelle raised a total of $4,855, which included contributions and the proceeds from a soccer game (instead of a softball game), pitting an enthusiastic Leadership Team against an equally enthusiastic team of "other" players. | |||
