Anderson County Cancer Society Relay for Life
From 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9, through 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 10, 2003, Team UT-Battelle sponsored a team of volunteers (employees, family, and friends of cancer survivors) to walk and raise funds for the American Cancer Society in its fight to find a cure for cancer. The event, held at the Anderson County High School athletic field, is an annual "ceremony of caring." Throughout the night, entertainment and refreshments are provided to support the walkers through as they run, walk, or stroll around the track. A candlelight luminary ceremony is also held to honor survivors and remember those who lost the battle. Team UT-Battelle established a campsite with the theme "All I want for Christmas is a Cure for Cancer," with games, activities, food, and entertainment as a part of the fund raising event. Team members also auctioned off an Italian Cuisine meal for six which was served in the home of the highest bidder, to supplement other funds raised for the effort. The total funds raised by Team UT-Battelle was over $16,000. The 2004 event was held on Friday and Saturday, May 7–8, at the Anderson County High School track field. Team UT-Battelle raised $11,537. Donations consisted of a $6,000 Corporate sponsorship, proceeds from themed basket sales, individual contributions, and sales at the relay of the infamous "Potato Cocktails" that Team UT-Battelle has been serving for the past 3 years at the event. | ||
