Advanced Toroidal Facility (ATF): Oak Ridge National Laboratory at Oak Ridge, Tennessee
ATF is a 12 field period torsatron (no longer operating) which was constructed
to test access to second stability. Shown below is an outer flux surface which
is colored according to the strength of the magnetic field with magenta corresponding
to high field and light blue representing low field regions.

Wendelstein 7-X: IPP (Institute for Plasma Physics)
EURATOM Association at Griefswald, Germany
Wendelstein 7-X is a stellarator which is planned to be
operational in Griefswald, Germany in mid-2004.
It will be the first large scale transport
optimized stellarator experiment in the world and will have mean major and
minor radii of
5.5 meters and 0.53 meters, respectively; the average magnetic field
will be 3 Tesla. In the picture below both the modular, nonplanar
magetic field coils (50 coils) and an outer magnetic surface are shown.
The coloration on the magnetic surface varies from red-yellow at high
magnetic fields to blue-magenta at low magnetic fields.

Heliotron E is a 19 field period stellarator. Shown here is an outer magnetic
flux surface colored proportional to the magnetic field strength. Magenta
regions are high field and dark blue corresponds to low field.
