The Sensor Science and Technology Group (SST) in the Engineering Science and Technology Division at Oak Ridge National Laboratory develops sensors and sensor systems for applications that advance science, improve energy efficiency, or enhance national security. Our thrust areas are new sensors and sensor systems and Analysis, Characterization, and Technology Support (ACTS) for instrumentation systems. Application areas focus on the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and industries that align with DOE, nuclear nonproliferation, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Our major facility is the Environmental Effects Laboratory which supports the ACTS program. Our staff's expertise includes electrical, nuclear, mechanical, and chemical engineering, and physics with extensive experience in sensor development and testing/characterization technologies. 74 Fact Sheets on Sensor Technologies
