Subject: Advance Notice for Proposed DOE M 441.X, Nuclear Material Packaging Manual
Directives Points of Contact,
This message is to give you advance notice that the Office of Health, Safety, & Security (HS) has proposed the development of DOE M 441.X, Nuclear Material Packaging Manual. HS has submitted their justification memo, and it is currently being reviewed by the advisory group consisting of representatives from the 3 under secretaries and General Counsel. If this directive is approved for coordination, it is expected to be entered on RevCom by February 26, 2007.
The following states the purpose of the proposed directive:
This Manual will provide detailed packaging requirements to protect workers from exposure to nuclear materials stored outside of an approved engineered contamination barrier whose composition and quantity pose the potential for exceeding a 5 Rem committed effective dose equivalent (CEDE) inhalation dose.
Please defer any comments to HS or this Office until the proposed directive is posted on RevCom. This is an advance notice for planning purposes only
