SOLVED: Tru64 Newbie needs help with tape devices

Hello,

   My thanks to everyone who helped me out with this problem. The problem
turned out to be with the MDR and not with the alpha machines.
What happened is that a relatively new MDR (only a couple months old) that
we got shipped had very old firmware. (version 1100). Apparently,
this version of the firmware is not compatible with how Tru64 version 5 and
newer. The older firmware has SCCmode off by default and has no way to
control or set this mode. Once I updated the firmware and set the mode to
on, voila, all of the tape devices showed up.
