rpcgen source?

Hello, again gurus!

In trying to install Satan from DEC's freeware CD, I encounter a problem where
the  Makefile wants to use rpcgen, can't find it, and exits. There is rpcgen
source included in a subdirectory of Satan, which I could make, and indeed
there is no trace of rpcgen in the system currently, other than the man page
discussion.

My question: is it safe to make this version of rpcgen, or is rpcgen available 
via the DU CD? I'm installing to a 4.0a system; the source comes from
RPCSRC 4.0 (1989) - a free distribution from Sun - and is reportedly 4.2BSD and
4.3BSD compatible, It dates from 1995. There is good documentation provided
which explains where everything will be installed, but I wonder if it's
compatible with DU 4.0a. The man pages for rpcgen don't hint at where it comes
from...

Any advice appreciated!
